Queens

Queens is a short documentary film produced for the European Project “With your own voice” in 2023. Delve into the lives of three young Hijabi women residing in Athens, Greece, as they navigate the complexities of identity and belonging in a society shaped by perceptions of Muslim women. Through intimate interviews and personal narratives, the documentary challenges stereotypes and explores the multifaceted experiences of these women, shedding light on their resilience and determination in the face of societal expectations.

A full day in a laundromat and several interviews give us a glimpse of this place where people come to meet the need for cleaning clothes or other household items.

 

From newcomers to Athens who don’t speak Greek to grandmothers who only communicate in this language. In an ideal world, it would be a multicultural and multigenerational meeting point, but in reality is a bit colder.

Nesma

Through the different documents that Nesma had to gather to overcome the different administrative processes to achieve her residency, viewers see how there is an institutional racism in society where migrants suffer innumerable obstacles to regularize their status and be considered like anyone else in their community.
